CEO Remuneration

13th May 2011

While I appreciate we need to pay to attract good people, I often ask myself, just because organisations have brought into the idea that a CEO must have relativity compared to others, should their pay keep rising to the levels we are currently seeing in many New Zealand organisations?  Is productivity being affected by the levels of income being extracted?  How is this affecting New Zealand's competiveness?

If a well paid Chief Executive was placed on the market in today's economy, would they receive the levels of remuneration they currently claim?  I think not, therefore are we over valuing their real worth?
